Hi,
I've been using the default template data to setup most of my pages and learn how things piece together. However I'm running out of time to get things sorted and I still don't know how the News page works. I''ve got my site up at; http://selfix.marksweb.co.uk I'd like the 'news' link on the navigation to have a page where News items come up with a list of 'summaries' with 'read more' links. Is this possible? I've copied the More:News page template and Index:News:FrontPage template. How would I put together a news page how I described above? Also, would it be possible to have a link only viable to logged in (admin) users to a 'submit news' page? |

Looks like the only thing missing is the Advanced Index. You need to create an index that you then place onto the News index template - this tells MonkeyCMS what sort of content to pull out from the database, the ordering and what conditions the content needs to meet.

I think I created a tutorial to cover this:

I've setup the advanced index, I just needed to know how to include it in the page, thanks guys. really helpful stuff.
Got announcements and what should be the news now displaying; http://selfix.marksweb.co.uk/index.php?page=News Where is that generic 'welcome' story? I've added some News to the actual news content area and its not displaying (obviously). Also, when you click 'read more' does that page pick up it's layout from 'DefaultContentTemplate'? Its probably best I set up a new screencast tutorial - easier to explain by clicking things, rather than a wodge of text.
The Welcome story is a news entry. Click 'Content', 'Edit Content' and 'News' and it'll ask you what date range to look at - the screen will initially be blank. Select the earliest date and click 'Go'. You should then get the news entry with loads of icons on the right. If you simply want to edit this news entry, you can ignore those icons and simply click the news entry. If you want to unload (temporarily remove the news entry) or delete it (totallly remove the news entry) you can click the 5th or 4th icon respectively. If you add a new news entry (Content -> Add Content -> News), type out the news entry, and click 'Save', it gets added to a holding area. You've then got to 'upload' this to your live site. After saving it, do you see an icon in the icon list on the left, of an arrow pointing upwards? Its at the bottom. Click that and the content is now live. Yes, the page takes its template from the Default Content Template for the news definition. Each definition can have its own template and layout. Hope that kinda makes sense! ![]()
