Groups are primarily used to aid in restricting content.
Users can become members of groups by specifically joining them or by being added via the admin interface. Groups can be public or private and they can also be moderated to give you full control over which users are members of which groups.
User group membership can be set to expire after a certain time - for example, when a paid subscription runs out.
Creating Groups
To create a group, browse to Users > Site Users > Group Management and select the New Group link. This will show you the New Group screen:
Fill in the form specifying a description and any rules you may have for membership of this group. If the group is public click the appropriate check box, likewise click the Require Moderation check box if moderation is required.
Public groups are visible on the Groups screen on your site and users can join them themselves.
