Skins are used to describe iterations of the MonkeyCMS site interface. That is to say, they provide your visitors with different layouts defined by the site administrator. Skins consist of various elements which can be customised on a skin-by-skin basis and are managed with the Skin Manager.

You can Create, Delete, Merge and Copy skins as required.

Creating a new skin

To create a new skin, you can either create a child of an existing skin which inherits all of the parent skin's elements unless customised or you can create a base skin that inherits no elements and is defined from scratch.

To create a child skin, browse to Layout > Skin Manager and select on the skin that will be the parent. You will be presented with the following dialogue:

Enter the name you wish to give the new skin (note: duplicate skin names are not allowed) and select 'Create Skin'. This will create your child skin ready for customisation. As shown in the above screenshot, the skin is not active - this means that visitors will not be able to select your customised skin. You can activate it at any time from within the Skin Manager. You can also choose to change the parent skin at any time OR even change it to a base skin.

The process for creating a base skin is almost identical - the only difference is you must select the option on the skin list.
